Cathing 101: Relax

Here’s the next installment in my ‘Self-Cath 101’ series. Today’s lesson can be summarised in one word…

Relax

If you’re feeling discomfort (due to self-catheterizing, I should say, not due to reading this), then maybe you’re not relaxed. Take a deep breath. Ignore the fact that you’re inserting a man-made plastic tube into your down-belows. Sorry to mention it, but let’s get that fact out of the way, and get on with the business of doing out business. So relax.

The worst problem I ever had with self-cathing was when I was at school, age ten, and I just couldn’t get the darn thing in. I’d built it up too much and just tensed up. Relax.

Catheterizing is actually a lot easier than the idea of it suggests. I won’t go into the ins and outs (and ins and outs) of it here, as there are many websites and highly qualified medical folks to advise on that.

The opinions expressed here are of a personal and anecdotal nature, and are in no way a substitute for professional medical advice. You should always consult your doctor or nurse if you have any questions.
