How/where do I find my urethra to insert the catheter?

The urethra is the hole where urine comes out. The male urethra is located at the tip of the penis and is easy to find. However, women often find locating their urethra a little more difficult, as it’s more hidden away. The female urethral opening is a small star-like shape between the vagina and the clitoris, just in front of the vagina. To help locate your urethra you may wish to use a standing mirror that you can place on the floor or a leg mirror that can be placed around your leg to help see the urethra before inserting the catheter.

Adjusting to cathing can be tough. You might find yourself dealing with a range of practical, physical and emotional challenges. You don’t have to figure it out alone. Call and talk to a member of the me+ support team today. Call 1-800-422-8811 (M-F, 8:30 AM-7:00 PM ET).
